The group, comprising more than 100 mandalis, renders devoted service of chanting Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam for the welfare and development of society.
One of the simplest yet most effective ways of connecting to the Divinity is by the mere recital of slokas, stotras and mantras, with great devotion. In Hinduism, people worship several Gods and Goddesses. The Trimurti, comprising Brahma (Creator), Vishnu (Preserver) and Shiva (Destroyer), are the three most important deities.
The Story behind Vishnu Sahasranama
The Vishnu Sahasranama is an ancient script written in Sanskrit. Sahasra means thousand, and Nama means names. It is a masterpiece by the extraordinary Sanskrit scholar Sage Vyasa, also the author of the Adhyatma Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita, Puranas and other stotras.
The epic Mahabharata contains the Vishnu Sahasranama. Yudhishthira, the eldest of the Pancha Pandavas, was confused about the greatest Dharma to follow in life. He approached Krishna, who instead of imparting the Gita as he did to Arjuna, took Yudhishthira to Bhishma Pitamah, lying on his deathbed on the battlefield, felled by Arjuna's arrows. On Krishna's advice, Yudhishthira sought guidance from Bhishma through six questions, which begin the Vishnu Sahasranama — the essence of Bhishma's life, witnessed by Sage Vyasa and Krishna at Kurukshetra.
Bhishma answered that whoever had brought Yudhishthira to life was the Supreme Being, to whom one should surrender, and that meditating on his name a thousand times would help one achieve an auspicious state and be freed from bondage and sin. Bhishma then recited the thousand names of Vishnu — this part of the Mahabharata is called the Vishnu Sahasranama.
Importance of Vishnu Sahasranama
Vishnu, the Preserver, sustains life in its many forms on earth. Among the many sacred verses offering prayers to Vishnu, the most effective is the Vishnu Sahasranama, containing a thousand names of Vishnu. It forms part of the Anushasana Parva (149th chapter) of the Mahabharata, comprising 107 slokas in Anushtup Chhanda, a meter of poetry.
For a sound mind and body to remain stress-free, we turn to God in both happiness and difficulty, doing Nama Japa with sincere devotion and absolute faith. Reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama, or simply listening to it daily, helps preserve mental peace and stability.
Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam contains 1008 names of Sri Maha Vishnu, composed after the Mahabharata war by Saint Vyasa Mahamuni from verses raised by those present at the time. Every name of Sri Vishnu carries meaning, and the phonetic vibrations produced by chanting each name and the chain of names create effects long recognized by scholars as essential to human knowledge and wisdom.

What Is the Right Time to Read the Vishnu Sahasranama?
It is best to read the strotra in the morning after bathing. If reading later in the day, the best time is evening, between 5–7 pm. Chanting before sleep is also said to be beneficial.
What Is the Right Way of Chanting the Vishnu Sahasranama?
First decide if you want to chant daily, weekly, or on a special occasion (muhurat), and for how long.
If performed as an astrological remedy, resolve on the number of rounds you wish to complete.
Decide on a time slot and stick to it — for example, once every Sunday morning for 52 weeks.
Each round of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, start to end.
Best done in a private space, free of noise, distraction, smell and dirt.
Success comes to those who chant with devotion, determination and discipline.
Optionally, light a wick lit in sesame oil or ghee.

What Is Great About Vishnu Sahasranamam?
There are six facts that attest to the greatness of the Vishnu Sahasranamam:
1It is the essence of the Mahabharata.
2Sages such as Narada have made repeated references to the "Thousand Names of Vishnu" in their devotional works.
3The rishi is Vedavyasa, the foremost knower of the Vedas, and an incarnation of Vishnu.
4It is Bhishma's considered opinion that it is the best and easiest of all Dharmas — the means to attain relief from all bondage.
5It is widely accepted that chanting this Stotram gives relief from all sorrows and leads to happiness and peace of mind.
6It is in conformity with the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and other important Vedic literature.
Why Do We Need Vishnu Sahasranama
Mantras are sound vibrations that permeate every cell of our being; they dissolve the mind. Mantras are impulses or rhythms of consciousness that bring out positive energy — sound vibrations beyond the cognition of the mind. When the mind does not analyse, it simply dissolves into a meditative space.
A mantra is like a seed; every seed has the potential to become a tree. These sound vibrations contain all the possibilities of creation. Chanting the Vishnu Sahasranama brings endless benefits, freeing us from the fear of poverty, disease, birth and death, and raising us to a higher consciousness that draws us towards introspection and meditation.
Sahasranama means a thousand names — figurative, since the Lord's names are truly infinite; a thousand is symbolic of the myriad and the numerous. Before commencing the Vishnu Sahasranama, one meditates on the cosmic form of Lord Vishnu. By chanting, or even by listening to, the thousand names, one can move towards one's goals.
Lord Vishnu is Visveshwara — the one who reigns over the globe, supreme. In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says: "I am the beginning, the middle and the end." Recognizing that everything good in this world carries an element of divinity is progress on the path towards salvation.

Even without knowing the meaning, chanting brings tremendous benefit — the Puranas say that the name "Hari" has a tremendous power to remove sin. Nama Japa can be performed at any time; the divine name is the supreme truth.
The Vishnu Purana teaches that what is gained through meditation in Krita Yuga, through sacrificial rites in Treta Yuga, and through ritual worship in Dvapara Yuga, is obtained in Kali Yuga simply by chanting the names of God.
